King Neptune

I have ruled the seas since the beginning of time. Long ago, I protected the seafarers from the powerful storms that resulted from my occasional anger. Over the years though, humans lost respect for the underwater world, polluting our oceans and putting this world at risk. I had lost faith in humans and turned my attention to caring for the innocent creatures and plants that call the oceans “home”.

Have you changed your mind about humans after the recent adventure with the Ocean Protectors?

Yes! I am so thankful for the wonderful job that the Ocean Protectors did. Not only did they return the Diamond of the Seas and save my life, but they also taught me a powerful lesson. You cannot judge a whole group by the actions of a few. John and Suzanne showed me that there are good humans who know that the ocean is home to many living things. I learned from them that there are many, many humans who share their love of my ocean. If we all work together, this planet will be a better place for everyone who lives here!

King Neptune, what is your biggest worry about the oceans right now?

The peaceful world of the ocean is being invaded by polluters. There are places that are far away from land but still suffer from the impact of pollution. Every single day, I work to rescue our living world in the ocean from human trash and oil spills. Perhaps you can help to spread the word that without the ocean and its life, the rest of the planet cannot survive.

If the Diamond of the Sea gives you your power, why do you always carry your trident?

The Diamond gives me the power, which is channeled through my mighty trident. Think of the Diamond as a huge, undersea battery that charges both my life spirit and the power of my trident.

Stories often make sharks look evil. Are they really the water bullies that humans believe them to be?

Anyone who is threatened can become what you call a “bully”. I have many sharks as friends. We all need to respect the needs of each other. Sharks feed in the ocean; this is their home. Humans need to understand the needs and thinking of sharks before they kill them in their own home.

Why are we seeing so many storms coming from the ocean?

Weather disasters like hurricanes and tsunamis are rarely the result of my rage. Humans need to look at the problem of global warming if they seek to blame someone for the big climate and weather changes.

What do you like to eat, King?

As guardian of the ocean, I cannot eat any of my subjects. I am a vegetarian and my favorite meal is a salad made of kelp, seagrass, and other plants from my sea garden. My friends, the Samurai Starfish and Seahorses do the gardening. Also, sometimes, I crunch up empty shells to sprinkle on top.

What do you do when you’re not guarding the ocean?

I’m always guarding the ocean, but when that job doesn’t keep me busy, I like to work in my garden and listen to the music of the whales and the mermaids. The Ocean Protectors gave me an OP3 player for my birthday so I can listen while I work!

Don’t you mean an MP3 player?

No. OP3. It’s an Ocean Protectors player!
